I would definitely prefer the manga over the anime.

It is nice to see Goku grow up to be a man child of a father but a badass on the battle field

Part 1 is a fun and lovable adventure, while part 2 redefined the shonen genre. Dragon ball is a classic, but has it's flaws mostly with Z.
