Southern_Writeoffs #1: Baccano!

I’m going to be honest: I didn’t get the first episode of Baccano!. Its pontification about the nature of storytelling, its reporter characters who were never seen again trying to piece together the actual story, its total nonlinearity, baffled the 14-year-old me. It made no sense. How could it have so high a score on MAL? (This was before Kitsu, hell, before Hummingbird). Then I watched the rest of the show and fell in love with it. Fluid animation, bouncy jazz score, interesting and memorable characters, amazing English voice acting, and a nonlinear story equal parts Tarantino and Ritchie totally blew me away.     I was the same way when I first saw it haha. I was at a loss and until I went to rewatch it later and start for real I didnt click with it right away. It’s odd how disconnected that pilot is for a first time watcher!

    Baccano sure was an experience, I wish I could have liked it though. I had the opposite experience, the more I watched, the more annoying it got. But there was enough to like to keep going- the charisma of (some) characters, the music, and the satisfaction of putting the story together was just enough to get me to the finish
